Nottingham Operatic Society brings this classic of the Musical Theatre genre to the Theatre Royal for their show in 2019.
Famous on stage and latterly for the on screen smash hit musical staring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, this wonderful piece has many of the most famous songs in Musical Theatre.
The Sound of Music is particularly special to Nottingham Operatic Society because of a truly remarkable link.
Constance Shacklock OBE was an English Contralto who was born in Sherwood in 1913. She was a member of Nottingham Operatic Society before leaving Nottinghamshire to join the Covent Garden Opera Company.
In 1961 she left the Covent Garden Opera Company to join the cast of The Sound of Music at the Palace Theatre, London, where she played Mother Abbess for an astounding six years.
A picture of Constance (up to the point of refurbishment – we’ll check again after!) hangs in the foyer at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham.
