Coming very soon! A fantastic production for half term! HAIRSPRAY – THEATRE ROYAL NOTTINGHAM 27 -31 OCTOBER 2015
The hit Broadway musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, with book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan comes to the Theatre Royal presented by Nottingham Operatic Society.
The songs include 1960s-style dance music and “downtown” rhythm and blues. In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, and meets a colorful array of characters. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.
From the 1960s style dance music to the soulful rhythm and blues, Hairspray is sure to get audience members dancing in the aisles. Hairspray, winner of 8 Tony Awards, is a family-friendly musical full of laughter, romance, and wonderful tuneful songs. With one of the most upbeat and catchy scores of all time, HAIRSPRAY includes tunes such as “Good Morning Baltimore,” “You Can’t Stop The Beat,” “Mama, I’m A Big Girl Now,” “It Takes Two,” “Welcome to the 60’s,” “I Can Hear The Bells” and more.
