The Peter Murray Award
For Outstanding Contribution and Loyalty to Nottingham Operatic Society
Peter joined Nottingham Operatic Society in the late 1960’s, performing in 'Orpheus in the Underworld', 'Kismet' and 'Hello Dolly!' before taking up a post in London. In the years he was in the capital, he took part in many shows, and even turned his hand to directing. His job often took him to the USA where he was able to see a large number of theatrical performances, he became very knowledgeable on the subject, and was able to pass this knowledge onto his friends. He re-joined Nottingham Operatic Society in 2002 for our production of ‘Evita’ and also served for a time on the General Committee, even though by now he was becoming ill. Peter got his wish to be in our production of 'Titanic' in 2005, but sadly passed away in February 2008. In his will he left a sum of money to be used for a yearly award, to be given to an individual for an ‘outstanding contribution’ to Nottingham Operatic Society.
