The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Nottingham Operatic Society is proud to announce a regional UK premiere of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (originally developed by Disney Theatrical Productions and presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe)) onstage at the Theatre Royal from October 26 - 30 2021.
This wonderful new musical comes from Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) and Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Wicked) with a dramatic new book by Peter Parnell. Headlined with songs from the beloved Disney film, Hunchback is a superbly scored retelling of the Victor Hugo novel - an epic tale of passion, hope and redemption.
Nottingham Operatic, one of the oldest musical theatre groups in the UK, approached Disney Theatrical Productions two years ago, to seek the rights to stage what would be a premiere production of this amazing musical. “We have been part of the musical world in Nottingham for almost 130 years, and asked Disney to support our plans for a real community production. We believe we can create a wonderful choir and ensemble, and include voices from the community who don’t get the chance to perform. This is one of the most amazing new musicals, full of soaring, romantic songs, and we were so excited when Disney Theatricals and MTI Europe said yes!”
The Society is hoping to have the biggest cast of performers in its history, and has exciting plans for a spectacular staging, with new set and 25-piece orchestra. Along with the community choir and ensemble, this musical has powerful leading roles for the bell-ringer Quasimodo, the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda and the tormented Claude Frollo.
